I recall this being a very dark, rainy evening, such that I sat, in the car after parking to wait for a break in the rain that never really came. Any shakedown that was happening in the lot was totally washed out, and there were lots of wet dreads in Birks and socks shuffling about near the entrance to the once great Pittsburgh Civic Arena.

At this time, Phish was rapidly growing in their live show presence and seemed to be known for being THE live act to see, ESPECIALLY after Jerry's death the prior year. With good reason, the secret was out and they were set to take the reigns. They were not going to replace Jerry and GD, but they were def having a moment in that regard, and seemed poised and ready to set the gearshift up at any moment.

The 2nd set is an example of them taking the reigns on their own terms. The 1st set is great and can't be denied, with lots of new stuff , but the 2nd set is something I never saw them do before. A handful of old songs and one new(ish) one that they relaxed into and made things move forward.

This was a snapshot of band moving forward and finding their way into at least the 3rd or 4th stage of their career.
