At the beginning of Brother, Trey said "this is the alligator moat up here, so make sure you don't fall into it." and later the song's lyrics to reference the "alligator pit." Antelope contained a Jean Pierre tease from Trey. Fish was on trombone for parts of Antelope (which also included a Simpsons signal). Trey teased Roundabout before Mike’s Song and uttered the line, “Help me... I’m melting and I can’t solidify!” Weekapaug contained Long Tall Glasses vocals, Oom Pa Pa and Random Note signals, and a brief On Broadway tease from Trey. Sanity's intro featured various nicknames of the band and crew being shouted, while the end contained a vocal jam with more names being called out. Fish used the Bag-Vac during Terrapin. The Secret Language Instructions featured introductions of the Simpsons, Random Note, Turn Turn Turn, and All Fall Down Signals with Bowie being played in the background and included a Can't You Hear Me Knocking tease from Trey. Possum subsequently contained two Simpsons signals and an All Fall Down signal.

Review by ccburke

ccburke It is 2010 and I remember this show like it was yesterday. I have attended over 120 shows to date an seen many great Phish shows, Cypress, a Gamehendge 7/8/94 the 6/22/94 Icculas Show ect. But this show is my favorite show of all time for many reasons.

To Start with the Vibe of the crowd was awesome, I think everyone in the place was on somthing and tuned in a just ready for somthing special. This set list was special. Wilson to open, then a Special Reba great version prob my favorite of all time, next was a smokin Brother Jumping into the Aligator pit which Trey was calling the Orchestra part of the arena that was empty right infront of the stage. If you listen to a 3.0 Brother you can understand why this one is so special. Glide played perfectly then Rift which at the time was the 3rd or 4th version. Next came Fluffhead which was my 1st time seeing the song and was very special.Next came another 3rd or 4th ever version of a song and this time it was a smokin MAZE! Lizards and Mound were next and then a big Antelope to close Fish played the Tombone at the end of the song which I've never seen befor or since. Great set!

The Second was as impressive if not more than the 1st. Just look at the Setlist Mikes Sanity Sloth Mango to open had jaws on the Floor. This is back in the day when They still used the Trampolines for the Mikes. Also I'd like to mention the Minkin backdrops which I loved and still think produced some of the best light show expirences. Evil version of Cavern then a Tight versin of Uncle penn was a break then came a Great Version of Harry Hood. Fishman did his Vacum thing which I'm not not a fan of but then came the Lessons and Signals which I had saw in Prothsmouth earlier this tour but loved it just the same. Funny story about this one I had a buddy who was spaced out Trey gave the instructions for the Fall down sign then did it my friend was the only one in the building who was still standing he was messed up lol. Possum was smokin and tested the signals out. -encore was Lawn Boy (Trey Played the solo which he surrenders nowadays to Mike) and then Fire which left us wanting more after a raging show!

Just a PERFECT show from start to finish. The band was never tighter in n every song it showed. I relisten and can hear the band gelling at every moment.

The other thing I'd note about this show is Trey's guitar tone has never sounded better. This was the Pinicle of Trey's Guitar Tone

Review by broomecountyforumite

broomecountyforumite Well, the boys came to play tonight, and PLAY they did. This was my 1st show, my 17th Birthday, and would reign supreme as the finest show I would ever experience.
A buddy of mine who was at this show with me recently reminded me: Mike emerged onstage for the 1st set with his hair piled up on his head ala Marge Simpson. By "Reba" it had all fallen back into place.
And the hilarity never let up from that point on..to Mike's multiple announcements of "Possum" being about "brutal death....this song is about...brutal death."
At the opening of Set 2, just before the Roundabout tease, Trey announces "HELP ME I'M MELTING AND I CAN'T SOLIDIFY"...this is not on my CD of this show, but is present on my old cassette.
Everyone was trying to get Fish to tell the Prison Joke, but he refused "I'm good at embarrassing myself...but..." Even Trey starts chanting "Prison joke, prison joke, prison joke"...from behind Fish's drums.
The keyword tonight was FUN.
And now for the life-changing part: the jam in "Mike's Song," prior to Hydrogen. The strobes and the fog / smoke turned into this vision of massive sailing ships emerging from the stage and floating out over us, with the guys on the trampolines and Trey soloing with nothing but feedback. My 17-year old mind was officially blown. It still is to this day.
And the intro to "Harry Hood"....oh wow.
Repeated listens, over 20 years later, only make this show MORE impressive. Every song is played with 100% sheer conviction, energy, power. Trey is the Master. All of them are simply in Top-form. The entire show flows with ease and beautiful perfection.
Are there "better setlists" out there? "Longer jams?" More sets? Of course, but THIS IS PHISH. At least to this 1.0'er.
Five stars all the way. I even named myself after this one.

Review by kipmat

kipmat Thanks to @KernelForbin for hosting a replay of this show on turntable.fm this week. Prior to that, I was only familiar with the Antelope, but the whole first set is killer. The second set is a lot of fun, too, as the setlist notes indicate. A great "Trey" show, his soloing is top notch throughout, although I particularly enjoyed the Hood in the second set.

Review by VLooch

VLooch This was my 4th Phish show and I agree with there other reviewers - It was the best show ever!!!! The band knew it too - you could see it on Trey's face right after the final note of the Reba jam. The music was flawless and full of energy. All the wackiness & humor was just the icing on the cake - my friends & I had gotten ourselves in the right frame of mind for this prior to the show as we always did in those college days. I know this show like the back of my hand - it my most listened to Phish-recording. Very few shows hold a candle to this one imo!

User_25597_ From someone's review of 12/11/97, "Wear a cup. Trey will kick your dick off."
From someone's review of 2/28/03, "Way to go Mike. Tell Trey to cram it up his stupid butt."
On this Weekapaugh, Trey manages to kick your dick off AND cram it up your stupid butt at the same time. In other words, it's a full scale Trey reach around up in here. Definitely worth your time.

Review by DollarBill

DollarBill This is a very funny show full of name calling, laughter and carrying on.
Good run throughs of Rift, Maze, and Mound first set. Antelope is great. Second set gets pure silly all the way to the end. Trey is all over the name calling, Fish's bag-vac solo is sweet, Mike introduces Possum with "Horrible Death" over and over. Great encores.

Review by mcgrupp81

mcgrupp81 Trey and Page in particular were scorching during this show. Beautiful Reba followed by a great version of Brother and Fluffhead. Check out the Maze. Blistering version that will make you rewind. The Lizards is actually very well played too. Trey really excels during the buildup. The Antelope to close is one of my all time favorites and is right up there with the mighty 3/13 and 5/14 Spring 92 performances. In terms of setlist and playing, this is a dominant 1st set.

Second set. Heavy Mike's Song. Insane Weekapaug. I gave a copy of this show to a friend many years ago. He first listening to this in a car with another guy while passing a house engulfed in flames. He said it was on fire like the Weekapaug. Hell, the Weekapaug might have caused the fire. Rest of the 2nd set is plenty fun and a nice version of Hood in the mid-back part of the set.

The Dead and Phish alike came to play when arriving at Broome County.

Review by DemandOpener

DemandOpener Top Phish Show #3. Exactly one week after "Top Phish Show #2", the band laid down another all-time early 90s gem. Given that these two shows occurred in such close proximity to one another, I was curious to see what they had in common and what was different.

I don't have a ton to say about this show, to be honest. The show bears a striking resemblance to 3/13/92, mostly due to the large number of repeats from that show and the fact that there were a bunch of newer songs still getting worked out. The first set, for the most part, is pretty standard. There are more than a couple of standout moments, however. The solid, early set Reba has a really nice guitar solo from Trey in the jam and thunderous work on the skins from Fish. Brother includes the infamous "alligator pit" banter and features Trey waving around a big-ass machine-gun. This set also features one of my all time favorite versions of Rift, with extended, awesome solos and an impeccably played composed section. The set closes with a good Antelope, especially for those who are fans of tension. It gets pretty wild and Fish even unsheathes his 'bone post-jam!

The second set leads off with a standard Mike's > Hydrogen, but then an excellent Weekapaug kicks in. Mike flips on a filthy heavy metal envelope filter to open the tune, and that's just only the beginning of the awesomeness. There's a weird vocal jam, all kinds of awesome exploratory playing, and even secret language! The jam at times feels akin to a frenetic, out-of-control cheerleading routine, and that's literally the best way I can describe this smoking Weekapaug. MUST-HEAR!!! Sanity is really weird, as was customary at the time. The Mango Song is one of my favorite "songy" Phish songs and it is employed to great effect here in the second set, with beautiful tinkly piano and tight rhythm work.

The rest of the show is mostly just the coach running the ball to run out the clock, but the set closing Possum > Secret Language Instructions (a la 3/13/92) is still a highly enjoyable listen for anybody who hasn't heard the legendary Secret Language, and as such, comes highly recommended for those listeners. The show definitely "suffers" from being in such close proximity to such a similar, probably superior show, but on its own it's still a great show with a bunch of good highlights.

My highlights: Brother, Rift, Antelope, WEEKAPAUG, Mango

My score: 4.5/5
