4/20/89 Zoo, Amherst College, Amherst, MA (Rvwd 11/95) This
show has a Divided with one of the worst mistakes in it that I've ever
heard (Trey). Honey Love, however, with Fish on trombone, is one of the
most hysterical versions out there, I imagine. It has an incredible, drawn-out,
spectacularly dramatic close that sent me reeling to the floor in hysterics.
Similarly, the Harpua at this show is one of the funniest I've heard (it
is otherwise known as the "Whippin Pah" Harpua, or even the "Non-shot Ass"
Harpua). BTW and FWIW, Trey explicitly says in this version that Harpua
in no way resembles his dog Marley (who was recently shot in the ass at
the time of this show) (See Dan Purcell's amazing review of this Harpua...
review and transcription!) ("HIS GOD!!!" _HIS_ GAAAWWWWWDDD!!!!" :)...
It also has tease-jams of Gimmee Some Lovin' and Walk This Way! The MikeS
opening is very, very laid back and mellow. Much slower than usual. Otherwise,
standard opening. "Tramps segment" comes in at the usual time, although
they weren't on tramps (right, Dan? you remember this far back? post publicly).
Trey gives the typical obligatory 30 secs or so of the opening of the "tramps
segment" part of the jam to Page and Mike. Nothing that impressive from
them. Trey comes in jamming with only a little typical off-key sustain
stuff. He does a lot of scaling... very active! There is no "post tramps
segment" in these versions, of course. This jam is kinda sloppy at times,
it seems, but is much more ferocious than many 90s versions of MikeS! No
dissonance, no space. H2 comes in at 6:41, and is a little quick (they
were almost always this quick back then). Ends at 9:07 or so, when Weekapaug
kicks in. Mike's opening is very snappy and funky as usual. Trey tries
to come in a bit too early, but fortunately doesn't step on Mike's toes.
The Weekapaug, like the MikeS, is slower than usual, laid back. Trey opens
the jam with sustain, and then only steady, mellow notes here and there.
He breaks it out more, though, soon... and starts letting loose in typical
Weekapaugian fashion. The accompaniment from the others is fantastic. Trey
jams fiercely.. still nothing amazing (for HIM) happens. Final chorus comes
in at 13:38 or so. Again, very relaxed and not as upbeat and enthralling
a Weekapaug as the ones of late. Total time 14:30. C+ rating.
